Wider curriculum

The wider curriculum in KS1

Subject leaders provide teachers with progression of skills and knowledge organisers for topics within their subject area. These feed into to planning and are then used to help aide assessments within the subject area.

Teachers often start a new topic with a "knowledge harvest" of what they already know, this is then followed up at then of the topic with "what I know now".

Teachers provide children with frequent opportunities to revisit knowledge and concepts at the start of lessons. Assessment is then used to assess what knowledge children have remembered. One way to assess whether the curriculum has been learned is through low-stake quizzing.

Teachers will then use these formative assessment tools to assess against “curriculum related expectations” using the progression of skills and knowledge organisers- our curriculum specifies what has been taught and children are assessed as to whether they have met a minimum threshold in their understanding.
