Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
On Thursday 6th October all three year 2 classes enjoyed a fantastic trip to Compton Verney, just outside Strafford. Compton Verney is a great place to engage students in hands-on creative activities through exhibitions, collections and galleries to create an inspirational day.
Lots of learning took place when the children had the opportunity to look, discuss and sketch a range of portraits and paintings in the galleries. Emma (Class 8’s guide) taught the children about the different paintings and their importance to the gallery. Emma also focused on the emotions the people may have been showing in each painting.
The children were lucky by getting the opportunity to make their own 3D clay face in the afternoon. The children were encouraged to think of an emotion they could show, through the facial features on their 3d clay work, which they really enjoyed doing.
All the children had a wonderful time and learnt a lot!
Today Year One were visited by Registered Nurse Young who works at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals.
He taught us all about medicine and that they are not sweets but they can help us if we are poorly.
Next he described how the flu nasal spray will be given later this year and why it is so important to be vaccinated.
Finally he explained about some of the safety labels that are on bottles that we find at home and what to do if we come into contact with them.
The children really enjoyed sharing their experiences about being poorly and how they got better. A huge thank you to Nurse Young for giving up your precious time to come and visit us.
Year One have been learning all about ourselves and our bodies this half term and as part of this topic we had a special treat this week as Dermot the skeleton came to visit.
The children really enjoyed learning about the different bones in their bodies, how they help to protect our organs and how we can help our bones to grow.
We all had our photograph taken with Dermot and are very grateful to Birmingham City Hospital for lending him to us.
On week beginning 26th September all three Year 1 classes enjoyed a trip to Mount Pleasant Farm on the outskirts of Birmingham. The farm is a great place to learn as it is a working dairy farm where the children got to see how the milk gets from the 200 milking cows into Tesco shops all around the midlands.
Lots of fun was had when the children were able to collect eggs and feed the chickens, meet Pinky and Perky the pigs and feed the sheep that live on the farm. Miss Hatch (the farm's teacher) discussed whether each animal was a herbivore, omnivore and carnivore and the type of animal that they were e.g. mammal or bird.
The children were lucky to meet different breeds of cow as well as meet calves that were only a few weeks old. They watched a video of Mr Charles (The farmer) milking the cows with special machinery and saw the truck that took the milk away to be prepared for the shops.
All of the children had a wonderful day and learnt so much.
