  • Active Travel

Whitestone Infant School is one of the many schools in Warwickshire which is part of Warwickshire's Safe and Active Travel. This is to promote active journeys to school for many reasons.

    • To promote a healthy lifestyle
    • To reduce pollution around school
    • To reduce the number of cars parked near school
    • To have time with friends and family actively

Whitestone Infant School has been awarded an award each year since participating. The most recent was the platinum award

Whitestone Infant School takes part in a number of initiatives in order to receive these awards

The children log how they travel to school each day. The more active journeys they do, the more monthly badges they receive.

Sustrans have an annual fortnight where they encourage travelling to school by walking and wheeling. The more the children active travel, the more likely the school will win prizes.

Each class has a named safe and active travel representative to help promote safe and active representative in their classes

We have a bike shelter where the children are able to keep their bikes and scooters after having used them to get to school - why not see if you can come to school this way

    Learning Opportunities

Reception children have a visit from Warwick Bear to teach them about road safety.

The children in Year One and Year Two had a road safety assembly where they listened to a story about travelling actively to school.

    Bike and Scooter Training

In Reception all children have the opportunity to practice balance on a balance bike before they learn to ride a bike with two wheels.

In Year One children have scooter training where they learn to scooter safely.

In Year Two children have the opportunity to learn to ride a two wheeled bike if they can't already - the children enjoy this experience and have great success

    Competitions

Throughout the year, there are different competitions held to promote safe and active travel.
