Computing at Whitestone

Intent

At Whitestone Infant School, all pupils are entitled to rich and balanced computing experiences. We believe computational thinking is an essential life skill, enabling children to participate safely and confidently in a digital world. Through the use of computers, iPads and interactive technology, pupils develop key computing skills and knowledge.

Implementation

Our curriculum helps children become confident and responsible users of technology. In Key Stage 1, pupils learn the foundations of computer science, including algorithms, logic, programming and data handling. They create and debug simple programmes, use technology to create and manage digital content, and explore how technology is used beyond school. Online safety is taught throughout the curriculum, helping children use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.

Impact:

Pupils become digitally literate and confident users of technology. They develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to use technology effectively, responsibly and safely in an increasingly digital world.

Computing is fun because we learn new things and get to be creative! Sometimes we follow a sequence of instructions called an algorithm to make things happen on the computer, and it feels like solving a puzzle. -  Year two child
